TotalEnergies Lubrifiants, a division of TotalEnergies, develops and markets high-performance lubricants for automotive, industrial, and marine applications. With a wide global presence and a portfolio of trusted brands, the company is under constant threat of counterfeiting. To address this, TotalEnergies Lubrifiants partnered with the KURZ SCRIBOS brand to implement a solution that prints secure authentication features directly onto product labels and connects them to a global digital platform for monitoring and engagement.

The challenge

Counterfeit lubricants pose a serious risk to engines, invalidate warranties, and compromise customer safety. TotalEnergies Lubrifiants required a solution that could protect a wide-ranging and diverse product portfolio while integrating seamlessly into existing production environments across multiple regions. In addition to physical protection, the company also aimed to gain visibility into product flows and offer a consistent and secure experience for customers worldwide, regardless of market or location.

Our solution

TotalEnergies Lubrifiants chose ValiGate® Direct Print from the KURZ SCRIBOS brand to meet these global and operational requirements. The security feature is printed directly onto lubricant product labels at certified print shops, ensuring consistent application without the need for additional labeling steps. To enable this, more than 50 print shops worldwide were technically qualified to apply the security feature consistently and according to defined standards.

Each printed feature contains an embedded QR code that customers can scan instantly with their smartphones, without requiring a dedicated app. The feature is connected to Lub360, a customized version of the SCRIBOS 360 digital platform. Lub360 integrates two modules that work together seamlessly: Authentication & Analysis, which enables real-time product verification in the field, tracks scan activity and identifies counterfeiting patterns; and Customer Interaction, which delivers branded digital experiences after each scan.

Interactive content includes localized product catalogues and direct access to Lubconsult, a tool that helps users find the right lubricant based on vehicle or equipment type. Every element is tailored by country to ensure a relevant and consistent experience across all markets.

ValiGate® Direct Print and the Lub360 platform allow us to secure our packaging without disrupting production. At the same time, we gain valuable insights and can offer meaningful digital services to our customers.
