Customs seizes fake soft drinks
At the Wilhelmshaven container terminal, customs officials stopped thousands of counterfeit soft drinks that violated the rights of well-known drinks brands. As the authorities recently announced, the seizure took place in mid-June and the bottles seized and their contents have since been destroyed at the beginning of September.
Accordingly, the counterfeits originated in the Middle East and were registered for import into the EU. However, during the inspection of the 450 or so drinks crates, the goods raised the suspicions of customs officials: According to the authorities, the bottles were dirty and, in some cases, not completely sealed giving rise to the impression of an inferior production standard. The goods were seized and the brand rights owner consulted by customs finally confirmed the suspicion of counterfeiting. "The drinks bottles were clearly in a very poor condition and the soft drink ingredients were unknown. Such food products must be withdrawn from the market", says Frank Mauritz, spokesperson for the main customs office in Oldenburg.
